I See Red, I See Red, I See Red – Red Fashion And Accessories For Spring 2017

It pleases me that red has made a fashion comeback this season. Even when it’s not on trend, I still wear it. Red has always been my favourite colour and of course, it’s always been my favourite colour to wear.

I’ve been loving a lot of gorgeous dresses, shoes and accessories in this gorgeous hue.

I know not everyone loves wearing red and it may not be a colour you like to wear. In these circumstances, I’d purchase red shoes or a handbag with red accents if you’re wanting to add this colour to your wardrobe.

Jasmine from Pretty Chuffed curated some fabulous red pieces for under $50. You can check that post out here.

My recent red acquirements have been a red boho top, which I’m wearing right now as I type, and this gorgeous red dress from Witchery.

This Boho Top Will Cover Your Spring Rolls

If you’re after some summer clothes that will camouflage a muffin top, you will love this boho top from Wardrobe 22.

Since discovering the store, I have ummed and ahhed over getting this top. It has a free-size flow and was always flattering, but I like my patterns and it was always put back on the rack to make room for other much needed purchases.

Well this top become much needed after putting on a few kg’s.

Over winter I have been growing a muffin top. It’s only been gradual, and its simply because I haven’t been as active this year after getting two bouts of gastro and having to drive to kindy and school pick up as they are 10 minutes from each other. Unfortunately, after the gastro, I never got back into my routine and then I got more work and I had less child-free hours and I initiated a new child-free Tuesday treat habit which has probably helped sustain my muffin top. It only takes a few extra kg’s to create the perfect edge over the jeans.

I’m not worried because this boho drape top hides my winter indulgences.

It comes in red, black, musk and khaki.

Red is the colour of the season, and it’s my favourite colour. So it was the winning colour choice for me.

I teamed my red boho top with white pants from Katies. The top can be easily paired with shorts or a tube skirt. I will wear mine again with jeans and a stripe skirt.

The style is generous, but not bustling. I’m a size 14-16. If you’re smaller, you could cinch in the waist with a belt.

When I was choosing my earrings to wear with this top, I thought it would make a great top to wear on Christmas Day. It’s festive and will hide your food belly.

If you’re after some tops that will work with you as your body shape fluctuates, this is the perfect top to get and it’s a great price at $45. I just wish I had bought the navy with white polka dot one which Karen had last season.

Are you a fan of the free-size clothes? Like this boho top? Have you baked a muffin top, like me, over winter?

Add Spring to Your Interiors With Leaf Print Cushions

Last spring, I updated our outdoor area with some leaf print cushions. I think I sourced them on ebay as they were the teal green, rather than the dark green.

leaf print cushions

With the arrival of spring, leaf print cushions are infiltrating homeware stores. The print itself is also being used in fashion as well. The print was popular this time last year and its still making its debut this season.  I just love how this pattern brings the outdoors in, and Spring is the perfect time to invest in a leaf print cushion or two.

If you are thinking of adding some leaf print cushions to your interiors – or outeriors, think about placing the cushions with black and white or a neutral back ground. The contrast can look fresh and inviting.

Add different patterns to create a pattern clash. The rule of thumb when creating a pattern clash is to have a common colour in each of the cushions.

For my outdoor area, I’ve gone a complete pattern clash, incorporating black and white stripes and a bohemian style print and of course chevron. This was what our outdoor area looked like this time last year.

And this is what it looks like now.

There has been a bit of fading.

It’s important when choosing outdoor cushions, they are UV protected. This helps them retain their colours when exposed to the outdoors.

Here are some of my favourite leaf print cushions online.

Accessory Pops of Colour For Spring 2017 (All Under $50!)

I love wearing a pop of colour any time of the year, but I think adding some accessory pops of colour to your outfit/s is a great way to transition into dressing for spring.

While I love a bright accessory, I also love muted tones that work well with neutrals.

Right now, I’m loving wearing my tassel and pop pom earrings. Those pops of colour make me happy when I wear them.

A lot of stores are bringing out new accessories for Spring/Summer 17/18. When it comes to accessories, I don’t usually follow trends, I just buy what I love and know I will wear time and time again.

How I’ve Been Managing my Adult Acne Using Essential Oils

For the last couple of months I have been battling with adult acne.

Without my BB cream on, you could describe me as having a ‘pizza face’.

A couple of months ago it got so bad I had to do something about it.

I had red pimples over my chin, on my forehead and occasionally on my cheeks.

pimple scars

a selfie with no makeup where you can see my pimple scars on my chin – this was a week after using my mask.

At the young age of 33, I had thought my pimple days were behind me, but sadly they re-emerged aggressively.

Of course, to combat the problem I’ve looked at what I eat, I’ve tried to get more sleep and drink more water. But I did find notice I would get a bad run of pimples when it was a certain time of month.

I have combination skin and generally use a creamy cleanser from Trilogy. I have also used a charcoal soap bar from the Washpool Soaperie (which I’ve just run out of) that would help balance the oil on my face.

What I’ve been doing over the last couple of months is managing the problem by using natural products and mixing essential oils with raw honey. This mix has helped reduce the redness and eruption of pimples on my face.

Here is what I’ve been using:

When frustrated with the redness from the pimples on my face (yes I pick – it’s not good I know and makes them worse!) I use a honey and essential oil mask which significantly helps calm the redness and I can see a big difference after just one application of the mask.

My acne mask is

2 tablespoons of raw honey

3 drops of frankincense oil

3 drops of lavender oil

3 drops of tea trea oil

How I've Been Managing my Adult Acne Using Essential Oils

I found the recipe via Dr Axe, and even though it’s recommended for acne scars, I put the mask on when I have pimples emerging on my face.

beating adult acne with essential oils

I mix all the ingredients together and then smooth some over my problem areas. For me it’s my T-zone and chin area. I leave this on for an hour.

managing acne using essential oils and honey

I usually apply this face mask at night, while I type my blogs (I even have it on now as I type!) on a clean face after I’ve had a shower. I don’t coat too much on my face, or else the honey melts and drips onto my desk.

After it’s been on for an hour, I wash my face. I dab Clary Sage over my problem areas on my face and add my moisturizing cream.

And the results speak for themselves. Over the course of 3 months, I’ve had the occasional pimple or two on my chin and forehead, but usually they occur during that time of month. And my face hasn’t been anywhere near as bad before I started using the mask.
