Relaxed Casual Style – How to Dress For Comfort and Look Put Together

Relaxed casual style has become an ideal look in this current season of my life. I think this style works for all women, but for me personally, it’s been most sought for these past 12 months.

Most days I will usually wear a uniform to work, but on the days I work from home, I’ve reached for the relaxed casual style outfits in my wardrobe.

The soft pant became a sought-after piece when we had to work from home from 2020 onwards, but it’s a style of pant that works well for the days you need something to throw on and get going.

In our household, we’ve reached the season of life where weekends are just as busy as the weeks with sports, parties and completing errands that couldn’t be fit in during the week.

smart casual style

An outfit that works all year round with a matching sweater is the perfect trans-seasonal style I’m after and 3rd Story exemplify this way of dressing.

Based in Melbourne, 3rd Story design ethically made pieces for a relaxed and comfortable fit.  The styles are perfect for layering in the cooler months and offer a cohesive look that is easy to throw on, yet still look “put together”.

I was gifted the Gerry Contrast Stripes Jogger (Size XL) with the Jill Gold Star Stripes Tee (Size XL) and the Ginger Leopard with Stripes Sweater (Size XL). I could have sized down in the sweater, but I don’t mind the oversized look.

It was an easy outfit to wear for working at home and then taking the kids to netball practice.

All the pieces from 3rd Story are designed to be worn  with each other to create a relaxed casual style that looks smart, yet feels comfortable.

Team your outfit with some white Frankie4 Sneakers and you’re good to go to get the kids to school sport or work from home without feeling like you haven’t put any effort into your outfit.

How to Organise Jewellery

I own a lot of jewellery. So much so, I have to take stock each year of what I own, what I wear and what I don’t reach for anymore. I thought I’d share what I use to organise jewellery in my room and wardrobe. (I use a few different holders) and some options if you need to organise your own jewellery.

how to organise jewellery

Necklaces

I’ve always had a corkboard hung in my walk-in-wardrobe, which holds all my favourite necklaces. I’ve had this corkboard since I was married and it’s travelled with me from one house to the other. Over the years it has amassed a number of necklaces. I wear most… although I’m preferring earrings these days and will most definitely need to cull what I own here.

Earrings

I hang my earrings on a Bon Maxie Pin Board and an earring stand I got a few years ago from Target.

Bon Maxie Stud Earring Holder Jewellery Organisation

Bon Maxie Earring Holder

I wear nearly all the earrings on both stands. These holders make it easy for me to look at a glance what I’d like to wear with my outfit that day.

Rings

Rings are slowly becoming an accessory I reach for daily. I wear all the rings I own as I don’t own many. I have a crystal ring holder which I got for my 21st Birthday from my Grandma. My rings have special meanings to me so I put them on every day, and only at night will I take them off to place on the ring holder.

Bangles and Bracelets

I don’t wear bangles anymore or bracelets. Simple reason is I type a lot and I find they get in the way of my typing. I just found I wasn’t wearing them due to this reason. So I sold them or kept ones for special occasions in the holder below.

But when I did have these pieces, I used to hang them on a mug holder. The arms allowed for all my bangles and bracelets to be hung, easily retrievable when needed.

Miscelanious Jewellery

This jewellery organiser bag is great for holding miscellaneous jewellery – like pieces I owned when I was younger and I just can’t part with it. Or pieces in jewellery bags, worn for very special occasions – like black tie events. I even have vintage brooches which I bought in London.

organising jewellery behind door

While it’s on display behind my bedroom door… I rarely wear the pieces in this organiser. It’s great for keeping items separated… but I prefer the other organisers above. I got this bag from Howard’s Storage World.

How To Organise Jewellery With These Options

How to organise jewellery in your home will depend on whether you want your pieces on display or hidden away. I’ve found a few different jewellery organisers and holders to consider if you need to organise your jewellery.

Jewellery organisers to keep accessories organised

  1. Gold Winona Jewellery Stand $59.95 (on sale)
  2. Palm Eden Jewellery Box $99 (on sale)
  3. Classic Trinket Box $47.95
  4. Malarie Jewellery Stand $44.95
  5. Concrete Jewellery Stand $68.95
  6. Mega Earring Organiser $10 (starting from)

Culling Your Jewellery

When I go through my jewellery and cull pieces I no longer wear or no longer wish to own, I usually bulk it together. I have sold my jewellery like this on eBay. I don’t get much for it and the time to photograph is often not worth my time. But I prefer someone else to enjoy them. I have tried Facebook Marketplace with little luck.

You can always donate your jewellery to local op shops or causes where recycled clothing is used for fashion shows as they always need accessories to go with their outfits.

Some pieces can also be great for costumes or dress ups. My girls love looking through my necklaces to see what they can add to their dress up.

While culling your jewellery, it’s a good time to reflect on buying habits in the future. I’m often swayed to purchase cute earrings because they are affordable… but are they a temporary purchase which will end up in landfill? As you can see I own a lot of earrings, but I wear most of them and for this reason, I’m happy with the amount of earrings I own.

How do you organise your jewellery? Do you own a lot or own very little?

  • Dressed up or down depending on the occasion

Salty Crush is my go-to store for affordable boho style.

I was sent these two gorgeous maxi dress styles from the new season pieces online.

Tessa – Bree Maxi Dress $89

I’m in the Large for this dress as it is a relaxed fit. The dress doesn’t quite graze my ankles, but it works for an easy style to wear with sandals or white sneakers.

Enrieta Maxi Dress $79

The Enrieta Maxi Dress has Mister Zimi vibes and the colours make it a perfect pieces to wear for Christmas. I’m in the size 14 as it too is also a relaxed fit.

I love how each dress has a tie in the middle to cinch in the waist. I’ve paired my DIY Christmas Pom Pom earrings with this dress.

They are going to be on high rotation this summer.
