Long Sleeve Stripe Dresses For Winter 2017

A long sleeve stripe dress is a great addition to your winter wardrobe, if you’re looking for affordable pieces that will add style to your existing wardrobe.

One of my favourite go-to summer outfits was the stripe tee dress. It was always easy to chuck on and team with white canvas sneakers or sandals. When I look at my #everydaystyle Instagram photos, I can see this outfit was worn on high rotation.

I sometimes find dressing for winter can take a little longer because you have to add layers depending on the temperature outside.

Those of us that live in Queensland, or a warmer climate need to keep in mind that by midday, it can be quite warm, so our first layer needs to be a breathable long sleeve or short sleeve top.

What I like about the long-sleeve stripe dress is that it’s trans-seasonal. It works well in between seasons and can be accessoried and layered in Winter.

These dresses can also work well for beach cover-ups, where your arms can be fully covered, which for me is vital because of my fair skin.

I purchased a black and white stripe long sleeved dress at the end of last winter from City Chic and it is a denser fabric than say a thin t-shirt style. I will definitely be looking at investing in more of these dresses for winter.

Here are some styles I’ve found online. White and Navy, Black and White and Blue and White are the most common long-sleeve stripe dress colours. I’d love to find one in red stripes.

  2. O’Neill Shutter Dress $59.99
  3. Bohemian Traders Long Sleeve Scoop Neck Stripe Dress $139.00
  4. Bohemian Traders Long Sleeve Dress with Contrast Binding $129.00
  5. Gordon Smith Stripe Tie Front Dress $119.95
  6. Freez Stripe Tunic Dress $49.00

Accessorise your dress with a faux fur vest. Last year I wore my stripe dress with a suede vest. Add leggings if it’s too cold to bare your legs. Add tan or beige ankle boots to dress it up, or white canvas shoes for a smart-casual look.

What do you think about the long sleeve stripe dress? Will you be adding this style to your wardrobe this season?

Knitted Out For Winter – Winter Knits 2017

Before a new season arrives, I go through my wardrobe and cull any items that no longer fit or haven’t been worn in a long time. I usually sell these pieces on eBay if they’re a brand that will sell well, or donate them to charity.

I have a walk-in-wardrobe, where I have two railings that I use to segregate my winter and summer clothing.

On my most recent cull, I checked the knits I had, to ensure I’m prepared for winter. I found a lot of grey coloured knits, so I am wanting to add a coloured knit or two to break up all the grey. Winter can be cold and a little depressing, but it doesn’t have to look stark, with no colour.

Most stores are bringing out their knits for Winter, so now is the time to do a stocktake of your winter knits and make sure you’re well kitted for the season.

Some of my favourite knits are ones with a shirt underneath and polka dots. I can’t get enough of polka dots.

I’ve found some gorgeous knits online, including cardigans and jumpers that I get frequent wear from during the colder season.

When choosing your knits, consider whether it’s a knit that can be layered. Layers are great for Brisbane winter, because you can delayer as the day gets warmer.

Think about the neckline too. As much as cold-shoulder and off-the-shoulder styles are very on trend, no one wants cold shoulders in winter. I find wearing a v-neck can be quite cold and a scarf won’t always cover the skin that is bare. While I’ve included the cold should and off-the shoulder styles in my collage, these styles may be more suitable for autumn and the end of winter when it starts to warm up.

Three Ways to Wear a Tube Skirt

The tube skirt is a great little basic to have in your wardrobe. In this post I’m going to show you three ways to wear a tube skirt.

three ways to wear a tube skirt

I go through my wardrobe every couple of months to organize and cull any items I no longer wear. One item that I have felt has been missing from my wardrobe is a skirt. I don’t wear too many skirts. I tend to wear more dresses than a skirt and top ensemble. But a plain, basic skirt can offer a number of outfit options with the existing tops I own in my wardrobe.

The first time I visited the Wardrobe 22 store, I really liked this khaki tube skirt. The rouching camouflaged my tummy and hips and even though it was clingy, it didn’t show my knicker line. I also liked that it could work with my body shape – if I lost or put on a few kgs.

I left it at the store to think about.

A week later I went back to the store and bought it. I had thought of ways I could wear the skirt and I’m going to share three of those outfits with you now.

Outfit 1 – Everyday Smart Casual Look

A skirt like this can be assumed as a ‘going out’ skirt. But I think it can work really when worn casually with a striped tee. For an everyday, running after kids look, I’ve teamed my tube skirt with a stripe tee. Long sleeve or short sleeve works well, depending on the weather.

Navy or red are great colour choices that go well with khaki. Add some white canvas sneakers and you’ve got an outfit you can do the school drop-off or pick-up in that looks a bit sporty, but quite trendy.

Outfit 2 – Smart and Sassy Night Look

This skirt can be dressed up with a simple black top and a pendant necklace. The heels elevate the look so you look ready to go out. I’ve teamed my tube skirt with a Rockmans lace and bell sleeve blouse and a House of Harlow necklace.

Outfit 3 – Corporate Look

I’ve been caught out on a few occasions when I’ve needed to wear a corporate outfit and all my clothes are… well not quite corporate. Add a shirt and blazer to the skirt and you’ve instantly got a corporate outfit. A black blazer would work just as well with the skirt, or a blue blazer as I’ve worn in the picture below.

As you can see the tube skirt is a versatile piece for any woman’s wardrobe. It’s $55 from Wardrobe 22 and you can order the skirt in black and an orange floral which I love just as much as the khaki.

Do you own a tube skirt? Do you prefer to wear skirts or pants?

Easter Decorating in my Home

I’ve been a bit late getting my Easter decorating up around the house. I think it’s because of the school holidays. Does anyone else feel a bit weird having Easter at the end of the school holidays rather than the beginning?

With Cyclone Debbie rolling through and having school closed for two days before the end of term, the kids missed out on their Easter Hat Parade.

As a result it just doesn’t feel like Easter. Although once I’m at church tomorrow, it will.

My Easter decorating is very simple. I bought decorations last year and they have done us well for this year.

Many of the decorations were purchased from Woolworths, Target, Dusk and Kmart. I keep the egg decorations and candles in a box and the egg holders in the pantry.

On Wednesday, I got Esther to work by placing a dead tree branch in a vase which she decorated.

I added mini chocolate Easter eggs to the tea light holder. They didn’t stay for long because once Phoebe found them, well she couldn’t stop at one. Thankfully she shared with her sisters. I might have helped the eggs disappear too. Just one or two. 

The girls and I made these bunny vases as a craft activity when we had a friend come over for the day. I used old pink chalk paint and spare jars. I glued twine around the tops of the jars and added a bunny face to each jar. When grouped together, they look gorgeous. The girls have one vase each in their room and Phoebe’s is sitting on the corner of the kitchen bench. These will definitely be put away for next year.

Easter decorating doesn’t have to be too technical. A simple bunny figurine, a bowl of Easter eggs and a vase of flowers can add the right touch to a coffee table or dining table.

Many Easter decorations are on sale right now, so if you love the idea of Easter decorating, why not make use of the sales. Here are some pieces I found online.
