7 Days of Dresses for Summer

If there is one thing I love about Summer, it’s wearing a dress. It’s so easy to dress for summer when you have to put one layer over your head. My dress collection for summer is pretty complete. I have a dress for every occasion, and should I choose, could wear dresses, 7 days a week.

7 days of dresses for summer 2017

Some of the dresses that feature in my wardrobe are the cold shoulder dress, the off the shoulder dress, the maxi dress, the shift dress, the t-shirt dress, the flowy summer dress and the capped sleeve belted dress.

I love all styles of dresses, but of late, I’ve been wanting dresses with extra coverage on the shoulders and arms. My off the shoulder dresses are usually worn at night or during the day, where I know I will be undercover, and not out in the sun.

There are so many gorgeous dress offerings this summer by my favourite online stores. I thought I’d share some favourites, basing them on some of the styles I have in my wardrobe. I have a mix of luxe ($150) to budget ($60) styles.

6 Patterns to add to Your Wardrobe This Summer

Patterns are such an easy way to add personality to your wardrobe.

I love a patterned tee or patterned dress. I will always gravitate towards a pattern, rather than a block colour. I like patterns because they’re different and often don’t require accessories. The print usually does the talking. With that in mind, I thought I’d share 6 patterns you might like to consider adding to your wardrobe this summer. You may find you have some of these prints from last season. Not all of them will float your boat, but the ones that do take your fancy, ensure you have the right basics to wear with them. Dresses are easy as they are one outfit, but an off-the shoulder top will need a neutral basic like denim shorts or a white denim skirt to carry it off.

Florals

I love florals, and will happily don a floral dress for a special occasion or just because. It’s one of my favoured patterns to wear when I want to feel feminine.

Gingham

Bec in red gingham dress

I’ve embraced the gingham trend this summer. I bought this dress from ASOS when I saw it went on sale. It’s a dress I wear around the house because, it is a little short for what I like when I’m out in public.

Tropical Leaf Print

The tropical leaf print is perfect for summer. You will see plenty of leaf patterns in dresses, skirts and off-the-shoulder tops. If you’re not into florals, a leaf print might be a goer for you.

Pop Culture Patterns

Unusual prints like the cactus, watermelon, or food items, will be a popular pattern choice. Even those associated with Gorman, will be popular. There are a number of retailers that are producing garments with pop culture patterns.

Animal Prints

I don’t think animal prints will ever be ‘out’ of trend. They are certainly a pattern to consider when wanting to add something a little different to your wardrobe.

Boho Paisley

I love the paisley boho prints at Bohemian Traders. The deep blue in this top is stunning. I love wearing this style of print with denim basics. This pattern can come in a dress too.

What are your favourite prints to wear during summer? Any of the above take your fancy?

6 Dresses That Caught my eye in the New Birdsnest Summer Catalogue for 2017

Yesterday I received my Birdsnest Summer Magazine in the mail. It’s got to be one of my favourite pieces of ‘junk’ mail I receive in my mailbox. That and the Sussan magazine.

While I was flipping through, there were a few dresses that caught my eye and I thought I’d share them with you. Some of them you can’t buy yet, as they haven’t been released online. You can pre-order them if they end up being love at first sight.

When it comes to purchasing from Birdsnest, I’ve found the sizing to be a bit all over the place, so I only usually buy the labels that I know fit me well like Firefly, Naudic, Boom Shankar, Lulu Soul and Ruby Yaya.

Some of these dresses have divine prints and colours, perfect for summer. There is a pattern for everyone in this mix with geometric, floral, stripes and polka dots.

So here are the 6 dresses that caught my eye from the new Birdsnest summer range.

1. Boho bird by Candlelight Maxi Dress $159.95 (pre-order only)

I See Red, I See Red, I See Red – Red Fashion And Accessories For Spring 2017

It pleases me that red has made a fashion comeback this season. Even when it’s not on trend, I still wear it. Red has always been my favourite colour and of course, it’s always been my favourite colour to wear.

I’ve been loving a lot of gorgeous dresses, shoes and accessories in this gorgeous hue.

I know not everyone loves wearing red and it may not be a colour you like to wear. In these circumstances, I’d purchase red shoes or a handbag with red accents if you’re wanting to add this colour to your wardrobe.

Jasmine from Pretty Chuffed curated some fabulous red pieces for under $50. You can check that post out here.

My recent red acquirements have been a red boho top, which I’m wearing right now as I type, and this gorgeous red dress from Witchery.

Spring Trend 2017: Boho Maxi Floral Dresses

I love boho style when it comes to interiors and fashion. I like the relaxed and colourful style with mixed patterns. I also like to pair it back with classics to create a modern boho looks. But one style of dress that has boho and 70’s influences that has come out for spring is the boho maxi floral dress.

I love these style of dresses as they have a flattering empire line and ¾ sleeves. I’m a fan of anything that skims over my tummy and covers my upper arms.
It’s the perfect trans-seasonal dress.

I recently went into Instyle Boutique to check out the new stock that had arrived and loved the print of this maxi dress. The pattern also comes in a shift dress if you prefer that style.

The reason I love the boho maxi floral dress is because the shape of the dress flatters and can skim over tummies and hips.

I love the ¾ sleeves for me personally as I’m not a fan of my upper arms and like to keep them covered.

The skirt of the dress can also be A-line which ensures it doesn’t billow.

When wearing a maxi dress that is flowy like this style, opt to wear a tan sandal or wedges. Open toe booties can also work.

If you really want to up the Boho anti, add a suede vest and a long necklace or tassel earrings.

I’ve found some online styles that are gorgeous. I really love the dress from Dotti.
